On the evening of August 29, Emily Liebelt, the Council's Clarence Petty Intern, had the pleasure of attending Essex Farm Institute's (EFI) first ever Public Forum at the Whallonsburgh Grange. People of all ages filed into the historic building to listen to keynote speaker Anthony Flaccavento, President of SCALE (Sequestering Carbon, Accelerating Local Economies).

It can be an arcane field, the Forest Preserve. Article XIV, Section 1 of the State Constitution, the "forever wild" clause, is comprised of 54 words which appear clear enough. Its authors in 1894 thought it should slam the door on those late 19th century abuses of the preserve. However, it's not so. Read David Gibson's explanation.

The Adirondack Council's Cool Farms/Healthy Park program was designed to support environmentally friendly farming as an important part of a sustainable Adirondack economy, protect open space and reduce carbon emissions. The Sugar House Creamery in Upper Jay, NY is one such farm that received an Adirondack Council/Klipper Fund micro grant and used it to update their milking equipment and make the twice-daily process more efficient.

This past Saturday, nearly 200 people gathered at the Inn at the Bridge in Northville for the Adirondack Council's Forever Wild Day celebration. The day featured a celebration of the Council's recent accomplishments, and a luncheon and membership meeting, as well as historic walking tours of the Northville business district and nearby Sacandaga Park.

Recently on the SUNY Polytechnic Institute campus in Utica, the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) held its fifth annual Clean Energy Economy Conference. Three days of exhibits, presentations and discussions brought together a variety of people involved in renewable energy in northern New York.

The Adirondack Park Agency is undergoing significant changes in leadership. Two long-time board members will retire at the end of the month, including the chairwoman, while three new members were appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and confirmed by the state Senate. Retiring at the end of June are chairwoman Leilani C. Ulrich of Old Forge and board member Richard Booth of Ithaca.
