William C. Janeway, executive director of Adirondack Council, an environmental organization, issued the following statement on Thursday regarding the appointment of Assemblyman Steven Englebright, D-Sautaukat, as chairman of the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee:
“Assemblyman Englebright has a stellar record of support for environmental protection and conservation initiatives and has been a friend to the Adirondack Park since his career in the Legislature began back in 1992.
“Chairman Englebright was a sponsor of the Environmental Protection Fund and has worked hard over the years to increase the amount of money in the Fund. He was also a leading proponent for the use of clean, renewable energy, authoring New York’s solar net-metering laws in the 1990s and expanding the program in 2008.
“Chairman Englebright has helped establish the Assembly’s long held appreciation for clean water, public health, parks, and the state’s largest Park, the Adirondack Park. The Adirondack Council and others who care about the wilderness and the communities of the Park, will be pleased with this appointment.”
