Government Relations Director

We are seeking a Government Relations Director (“Director”) to work with the Deputy Director, ensuring that the Adirondack Council has a strategy for and regularly and actively engages state and federal policymakers, Council members, partners and the general public to advance Adirondack Council Conservation priorities. The Director leads a team of Council staff in partnership with a wide variety of coalitions and partners. This person manages a team that supports the Director in daily tasks and expands the program's capacity. The Director also works with fellow program directors in developing strategies to achieve Council priorities, providing insight into relevant Government processes, and acting as “the eyes and ears” in Albany and Washington, D.C. The Director reports to the Deputy Director, is located in the Albany office, and is liaison with the Board members of the Government Relations Committee.

Based in Elizabethtown, NY (30 miles east of Lake Placid), the mission of the Adirondack Council is to ensure the ecological integrity and wild character of New York’s six-million-acre Adirondack Park for current and future generations. We envision an Adirondack Park with clean water and air and large wilderness areas, surrounded by working farms and forests and vibrant local communities. To protect the Adirondacks, the Council uses the best science, the law, and an understanding of political decision-making to educate, inform and motivate the public and those who make public policy.
