New York State Budget Update
4/28/10
After passing a two week "bare
bones" budget extender for early April, the Legislature
has done little on the 2010-2011 budget since returning from
their break on April 7. Three additional one-week extenders have
been passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor to
keep government operating. There have been few signs of progress.
One Assembly Committee chair said publicly on April 27 that he
did not believe the budget would be resolved until October. The
Adirondack Council continues to call for restorations to the
Environmental Protection Fund
(EPF) and other important programs in the final budget agreement,
whenever that happens. We continue to monitor the situation closely,
and will let you know when your calls and letters will be needed
once again.
There are high
priority lands at risk in the Adirondack Park and funding
is needed from the EPF to protect these lands. Also see our
Lands at Risk brochure.
